2009 Candidate Evaluation Program

This year the League will be evaluating candidates running in for county, city, school board and port  positions in King County where the race is contested (not all races to be evaluated have been determined. Please call the League office for details).

The League's candidate Evaluation Program is much like job interview. A volunteer Candidate Investigator will call references, do research on the candidate and prepare a report to present to his or her Candidate Evaluation Committee (CEC).

Candidates first complete and submit a candidate questionnaire (ideally returned by June 8th, 2009). The questionnaire forms the basis of the evaluation process and will be distributed to the CEC along with the investigator's report prior to the candidate's interview.

Candidates then schedule an interview with a CEC. Interview weeks are June 22-25 & June 29-July 2.

The ratings are non-partisan and based on four criteria: involvement, effectiveness, character, and knowledge. The process has been developed and refined over nearly 100 years.

This year we will evaluate candidates running in contested races for:

  • King County Executive
  • King County Council Position 9
  • Port of Seattle
  • Mayors (Auburn, Kent and Seattle)
  • Seattle City Attorney
  • City Councils (Auburn, Bellevue, Federal Way, Kent, Kirkland, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Shoreline)
  • Seattle School Board
  • Court of Appeals, Division No. 1, District No. 1

Please call the League office to schedule an interview. 206-264-1070.
