Candidate Evaluation Program Internships

The Municipal League of King County is currently seeking 4 to 6 interns to support our annual Candidate Evaluation Program. 

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in politics, government, state, and local issues. Interns will have the opportunity to meet and work with many elected officials and others involved in politics and governance. In 2010 four to six Candidate Evaluation Committees (CEC) composed of up to 90 volunteers will rate over between 90 and 120 candidates for local offices. One CEC Intern staffs each committee and provides research support for candidate investigations.


Evaluation Committee/Candidate Investigator (CEC/CI) Intern Duties:

 

  • Act as the liaison between the volunteers and the Municipal League staff.
  • Assist the director, program coordinator and committee chair in organizing committee meetings and candidate interviews.
  • Greet, brief and aid candidates in preparing for their interviews.
  • Handle committee logistics and materials.
  • Learn about local issues.
  • Research public sources and resources for information on candidates.
  • Research and create background information files on candidates.
  • Assist in adding candidate information to League Web site (training available)


Qualifications: Must be helpful, cooperative, and motivated to provide support that meets the needs of committee members and the candidates. Access to own computer desirable. Familiarity with researching information on the Internet highly desirable. Training on research specific to the candidate investigations will be provided.

Specifics:
Four to six positions available. 15-20 hours/week (2 weeks in the evenings) for 7 weeks, plus three training sessions. Stipend provided; school credit available. Use of personal vehicle is required.

Timeline:
The CEC/CI internship runs approximately from June 1st through July 20th.
