I have been active in the Bothell/Northshore youth sports programs. I have participated as a Northshore little league football coach and coached in the Northshore youth soccer association. I have conducted and participated in numerous fundraisers supporting these programs. I have played an instrumental role in establishing Bothell's student exchange program with our sister city in Japan. I am currently working on expanding this exchange program to include international competition with Bothell youth sports programs.

I was appointed to the Bothell Library Board in 1988 and served until 1998. I served in various capacities, including president of the board. During my tenure, a new library was proposed, planned, approved, and built. It is a facility that serves Bothell well. Since 1998, I have been an appointed Bothell Civil Service Commission member. In a long civil hearing, I was able to work with my fellow civil service members and various attorneys to reach a decision, ending a long stressful situation.
