 SECTION III

In this section, we are seeking responses that reflect the four ratings criteria: involvement, effectiveness, character, and knowledge.  These are defined as follows:

1.      In a page or less, why are you running for this office?  (Note: the interview committee will be given a copy of this statement before your interview; at the beginning of your interview you will have the opportunity to expand on this statement in any way you wish.)

I believe that no matter where we are in life or what our individual circumstances are at any given time, all of us as citizens has the responsablity to make our community and subsquently our nation a better place to live.

I am running for Washington State senate because I believe that I have a set of ideas that will  benefit the quality of life for the people of my district and the state of Washington as a whole.

As a working class individual I believe that our state  government needs a member who truly lives the life of someone whose life is more reflective of the daily trials of work and life in Seattle.

My true desire is to be public servent who Republicans, Democrats, and Everyone can come to and address concerns and needs.  While my views may not always be the most pouplar with the greatest number of people everyone, Liberal and Conservative alike will know they can count on me to tell the truth.

Running for office and serving are two very different

things; as a candidate I will be vocal and state my positions clearly. As your State Senator, I will always look for community and individual input in decisions affecting the lives of citizens.

As far as issues go I have a few which are central to my campaign and they are.

Fixing the 520 before the viaduct, building a six-lane 520 with one (hot) lane going in either direction as opposed to a toll for all traffic, no tunnel no tolls.

Next, create a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years for all incidents of hit and run that result in death.

Protect Children by making the crime of raping a child under the age of 10 a capital crime

and subject to the death penality.

Lastly, I would love to see a bi-partisan commission created with an eye toward creating a single-payer health insurance system for our state.

2.      Describe your most important personal characteristics or traits as they relate to the office you seek.

Though this may seem an overly simplistic view; I believe that sincearty and a true abiding desire to serve my fellow citizens stands out as one of my best qualifications. Though one could look at my leginth of time in this district (8 Months) and see a possiable hinderence to service.

I see it as a chance  to bring "fresh eyes" to the long running problems facing Washington State.

One of the most underated but important qualities a person must posess in my opinion to be fit for elective office is faith.

The dedication to a set of guiding principles based in universal truth is of great importance to all elected officials; a sense of moral responsablity provides a basis of fairness and justice to all citizens.

The  abscence of morality leaves only material gain and self agrandizment in it's place.

3.      Please describe in sufficient detail, one to three accomplishments or contributions of which you are most proud.  These examples should illustrate effective skills and capabilities you think apply to the office you are seeking.  These accomplishments may have occurred at any time in your personal, professional, or public life.

#1, As a certified eldercare guardian in Palm Beach County, Florida (1997) I gained  first hand knowlage as to the problems and needs of some of our most vunerable citizens. Through my dealings with various doctors and healthcare providers related to the individuals whom were under my care, I gained unique skills related to resloving problems and finding solotions.

#2, As a member of the hourly work force for serveral years I have encountered the trials and tribultions of everyday life for the mass of people we often refer to as "citizens and taxpayers."

I have lerned first hand how what seem like small inconviences to the better off; higher taxes & fees, can be dishearting and devistating to those who relay on their hourly wages.

3-10 Cents per gallon more for Gasoline, or 50 Cents more for Milk may not have great impact on the e execituve; for but for many of our citizens that can be the difference between having two meals in a day or just one.

Our legislature would  greatly benefit from the presence of someone who has walked the road of humility and deprevation; then perhaps there would be fewer high prouncements from Olympia, and more results for real people.

4.      Please list or describe your current and past activities in the community in which you have acquired skills that relate to the office you seek.  Include your role in the activity and the year(s) in which you were involved.  Involvement consists of many areas such as family, neighborhood, community, employment, or public life.

Most recently I have been a member of the King County Republican party; 2005-06. Before that I was involved with Habitat for Humanity 2002-2005 in Tallahassee, Florida and worked for the Former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, Richard W, Ervin.

As far as community service went it's harder to pin that down, I was busy being part of the community. I worked a full & part-time job, I voted in every election and only missed one in my adult life.

I will admit that working three jobs has prevented me from diving into the various community activities expected of a candidate for this office. As a citizen of King County, I am aware of the going's on and keep informed by reading the Seattle Times, Seattle Weekly, Stranger, & Listing to various radio talk show programs as well as watching KOMO news & King 5's up front with Robert Mak.

Telling all about my experences in Florida would be nice but it's King county and Washington State that's my home now and my awareness of the issues will deturmine my fitness or lack thereof for this office.

If elected then using the salary provided by the office, I will devote myself full-time to carrying out the responsablities and duties of my office.

I hope this helped and frankly I am very pleased by be a part of the civic process even if I don't win, having participated is rewarding.

  1. Please describe the duties of the office you seek.  Which are the most important duties and why?

Aside from the sespific duties as laid out in the state consititution; the office of state senate can be so much to so many. Of course the first responsablity of a state senator is to the district he represents, to pay attention to daily communications from citizens.

Letters, telephone calls, e-mails, and the like are all equally important and carry equal weight.

When a citizen needs help or has something they want addressed they ought to expect a fast, courteous, and hopefully adequate response.

The above is one of the most important responsablities I feel because so many people are without voices in this era of big money politics; yes, lobbists matter and groups such are yours and our many unions are very important.

But there's still nothing more important then the voice of that person who takes time out of his or her day to contact you; that one small voice crying out trying to be heard over the crushing sound of talk shows, newspapers, and political party hacks.

Next issue has to be the formulation of legislation, without the ablity to create bills and bring them to the floor what good is this office?

1 of 49, that's all I'll be; so I wil have to do something to set myself apart.

As a Seattle Republican, I will already be unique and have a special place at my party caucus table. With that unique barging power I can accomplish things for the citizens of Seattle that ust another Democrat wouldn't.

The third issue is to stand for those whose voice cannot be heard.

The homeless, the poor and starving, the unborn, the American worker, and the eldery.

The latte sipping software millionaries have the best representation money can buy. If elected to this fine office, I will be here for those people mentioned above and all the citizens of the 46th.

Now as far as testing my knowlage and understanding of the duties of the office; I can tell you that I watched much of the recent session on TVW, and that is one source of inspiration for running for this office at this time. As a State Senator, I will be expected to do volumeous amounts of reading and research, attend many committee meetings, work not only with members of my own party caucus but also the opposing party as well.

Compromise, courtsey, and consideration. Those are just a slice of what I'll have to look forward to if elected to this fine office.
