2010 Civic Awardees Announced

Seattle – On March 18, 2010 the Municipal League of King County will commemorate its 100th year by hosting its Centennial Celebration Dinner. Civic luminaries, elected officials and community members will come together to celebrate the League’s century of service and support its mission of open, effective and accountable government.

As part of this anniversary event, the League will present its Civic Awards, which have been awarded annually since 1960.  In honor of our anniversary, the League is giving awards in our original three categories, plus the Doug Mason Young Leaders Award, which honors the achievements of an individual 35 or under who is an emerging leader in King County.

This year’s Civic Awards winners are:

• Jan Levy, Executive Director, Leadership Tomorrow – Citizen of the Year
• Councilmember Jeanne Burbidge, Federal Way – Public Official of the Year
• Futurewise (formerly 1000 Friends of Washington) – Organization of the Year
• Wendy Cho Ripp – Doug Mason Young Leaders Award

This year’s awardees have strengthened the civic life of our community," said Kathy Elias, Municipal League Co-chair. "They provide inspirational examples of service and we're pleased to honor them at our 2010 annual Civic Awards."

The Civic Award ceremony will be part of the Centennial Celebration Dinner program, which will also feature a video highlighting the League’s achievements and the numerous people who have been involved over the years.

“This is a momentous milestone for the League and an opportunity to celebrate with awardees and the many people who are part of the League’s history while we prepare the League for its next 100 years,” said Gabe Meyer, Municipal League Co-chair. “I’m excited for what I’m confident will be the premier political event locally in 2010.”
