League Comments on 520 Bridge Tolls
On July 23, the Municipal League sent a letter to the Puget Sound Regional Council Tolling Implementation Committee in support of the concept of regional tolling to fund transportation projects and services and to manage traffic flow on congested roads.
"We specifically support tolling on the 520 bridge as an initial step in a larger regional process that could eventually lead to system-wide pricing. We believe that a successful demonstration project is the first step in gaining public support for a broader policy of road pricing. Adjustment may be necessary even at the outset. For example, if tolling the 520 bridge results in traffic diversion to I-90 such that the level of service on the I-90 corridor becomes severely degraded, we support imposing tolls on both."
